Will there be any kind of
retirement fund when people reach the age where they can retire? Or will they
be doomed to work until they drop dead. That is no doubt the question upon the
minds of many. Retirement benefits are not what they used to be, with many of
them going up in smoke, as various companies around the world do. The 401K is
not the surefire hit as it once was and who knows what the future will be.
Will
you have anything to fall back on when you retire?
One of the more horrific
realizations is that retirement is not a certainty anymore. At the age of 65
(or slightly younger for the luckier ones), people felt that they could retire
and live off of a pension for their golden years. There were no worries, if
they were smart with their money, they would have a comfortable lifestyle.
In this day and age, it is not
looking like the golden age is not so golden. In the United States especially,
the economy is descending further and further into a deep pit. Where there
seems to be no bottom where we can hit. In previous times, where we thought was
bottom is not going to pass. And that does not spell good times for people who
wish to retire.
Those who retire within the next
five to ten years might feel the heat. The heat is already being felt by those
who are retiring. The golden retirement plan is not what people had previously
assumed. If we don’t have some kind of turn around, things are going to be bad.
The economy is on shaky grounds
and the cracks in retirement are going through. Hopefully things will improve.
In the past many have worked, at least part time to alleviate the boredom but
many are hanging on due to the cost of living outstripping what benefits there
are going to be.
Benefits hold strong in some ways
but there are signs of strain. No doubt many near seniors and even those who
are ten or fifteen years away from retirement are nervously wondering what
their future might hold. Will there be any kind of retirement benefits or will
they have to work until their bodies can no longer work.
Many do fear that the worst is
yet to come. There is no magic fix and this economic slump is not a huge crash
but rather a slow bleeding. For those who might be on the cusp of retirement in
better times, it might not really be all that much around the corner. Even
those who did save their money, they are going to feel the heat.
