The Price of Freedom

What is freedom? An interesting question and I think that it is not really as difficult to define as one would really think. To many freedom is as follows. The ability to live a happy life without fear of oppression due to race, religion, gender, or anything else would be one huge component of freedom. The ability to choose a leader through a process that ensures that the individual who leads the country is for the people and not to fulfill some agenda of their own. Freedom is the ability to speak freely, as long as murder, mass torture, or other heinous crimes are not involved, giving opinions on the world without fear of consequences.

Most important freedom of all is the ability to govern a country without the need for the external interference of another country. Only under the most extreme circumstances should one country interfere with the other. And in the world, there are sadly plenty of times where the circumstances will be the most extreme. Where involvement will be mandated and most certainly appreciated by those being oppressed. Yet in general, no country has the right to tell another what system of government they should have.

Unless the country is deemed to be a threat to us, and for legitimate reasons, just let it be. Unless they try and interfere with our way of government, then there is no way that we should tell them how to run theirs. Hitler was struck down and for good reason. Hussein was struck down and for good reason. Gaddaffi has been struck down by what someone hhad assumed to be a good reason.

The ability for people to be free is a wonderful thing. Yet, once we help the governments up after the negative influences have been defeated, it is up to them to reestablish their way. For all of the talk of a free world and freedom, I’m convinced that to many in the United States, especially in the government, freedom means, “a government and government leaders we approve of to not question the wisdom of the almighty United States.”

I love the United States, but there are sometimes where we as a country or rather as a government, tend to really get a bit too controlling for our own good. In many areas where our help is neither wanted nor needed.
The United States meddling has saved countless lives in the past but it has also opened up a nasty little precedent that every time a country tends to get a bit out of line or even very out of line, the United States will swoop in, spank them, and get someone who is a bit more docile to us, a bit more able to fall into line.

As often as we dub other people terrorists for their actions (and for good reason), I’d hazard a guess that the United States would have been called among the same, if not far worse by many people around the world.  We’re not exactly number one on the popularity list of many people around the world.

The United States tends to meddle and it has not been a healthy thing for the people in this country either, as if you think about it, a huge reason why we’re in so much of a horrific situation is our ability to jump into fight every single battle.

In the end, there are many forms of government all around the world. Some have proven to be failures. Perhaps in the end, they will all be proven to be failures. Perhaps it is only inevitable that any organized form of government is eventually doomed to failure. It might take a long time, but thus is the chaotic nature of humanity.

The price of freedom under any circumstances can be high. When another country such as the United States or anyone else plays the white knight to save you from the vile forces, it can even be more so. Complete freedom is something that is difficult to obtain in the end. There will always be someone pulling the strings to some extent.

In the end, there will always be people who will try and put people under their thumb and control them. It has happened since the beginning of time and it will continue to happen until the final human draws their last breath.
