As regards the struggling United States Postal Service, there was some bittersweet but ultimately good news. While this may only be a temporary fix for post offices in several parts of the country and the inevitable death of the USPS could be at hand, some postal service offices got some rather useful news over the past couple of days. It might be bad news at any other time but given what could have occurred, this news has a good spin to it.
Postal Offices Throughout the Country to Cut Hours
Over the past few years, the rise of the Internet, online cards, e-mail, and online bill paying has rather caused a dent in the United States Postal Service. Not to mention a rather harsh reputation they have had about being an entity they have not had the best service, with many individuals stealing essential documents right from the mail and documents lost right in the mail.
At one point, several offices right throughout the United States would be closed. Needless to say, that would not be a good omen for the shaky economy and unemployment rate right throughout the United States as more people need to lose their jobs.
So a temporary fix of sorts has been offered, where the hours will be cut down. There is a pretty good chance that this might be the time where Saturday is finally put to bed as a day where mail is carried. Post offices will not stay open as long regardless of if one day is cut or if all days just have a few hours cut from them.
This situation means that some won't necessarily lose their jobs, but they will not have as many hours to work and their pay will go down slightly. It is a sad statement where a part time job is a good thing in this economy but it is. Working part time is rather working no time.
Still this might only slow the bleeding. Postal mail could be dying on a vine, which really is a shame as while the postal service does have flaws, technology and security on the Internet is not without its problems.
