Battle for Obamacare Begins

The controversial medical insurance reforms as instituted by United States President Barack Obama has begun today in the Supreme Court, best known by the name of "Obamacare". The reforms have been challenged by twenty six states, with many calling into question whether or not Obamacare can be considered to be constitutional. This question may cause the health care reform to either be shut down or be drastically altered.

Will Obamacare Be Shut Down

Many would agree that there needs to be some kind of form of health care in the United States. Many would also disagree that the health care reform spearheaded by Barack Obama is the absolute wrong way to go as far as health care is concerned in the United States. The biggest talking point and perhaps the biggest sticking point right from this government mandated health plan is the fact that you either have the insurance or you face stiff penalties.

This act is an absolute no win situation for many Americans who are in poverty, who can scarcely afford to put a roof over their heads, never mind pay for any kind of insurance. Insurance is something that you could argue is necessary, but it should also be something that should be the choice of each individual person, whether or not they have it and bear the consequences of a higher hospital visit. Also there is the matter of the choice of what kind of insurance that people could have and Obamacare is forcing people into a corner, limiting each and every one of their options.

The government involvement for a matter of health insurance might have been a little too great. Government involvement often does not help the plight of the common man, often times it puts them in a far worse situation than they were afford. This insurance is not just magically offered to anyone for rock bottom prices. It may be just as costly or even more costly for people. It does not remove the one fundamental flaw of good health care and insurance just costing too much. Thus many people leave health conditions left unchecked, not for fear of going to the doctor, but for the fear of the costs, because they do not have insurance.

The fine of $700 for people and $2000 for businesses who are not insured is something that have left money up in arms. Seven hundred dollars is far from a drop in the hat for people, many people would kill for seven hundred dollars. That lends credence to the claims that the health care reforms are not so much a reform, but rather another way to line the pockets of already overpaid politicians with even more money. Whether it be through the insurance or the hefty fines, it is the same all of the way.

Naturally this is Obama's legacy, hence why the Healthcare reforms have been dubbed as "Obamacare". You could ask very few people on the street and no one would know what you are talking about when you talk about the "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act." Bring up the word "Obamacare" and they have very strong opinions on the situation. This was intended be Obama's grand achievement, but there are some snags along the way and people are contesting it.

The Supreme Court begins debating Obamacare today, for the next three days at the very least, although questions about this policy might be raised for quite some time. Whether it will pass muster, will get thrown out completely, or will be changed to a nearly unrecognizable form, we will only wait and see.
