The time is
ticking down, much like sands of time slipping right down the hour glass.
Twelve more days until Christmas(including today), which means eleven more
shopping days until the Christmas season. Today, December 13th 2011,
12/13/11, eleven more days to shop for Christmas and the time is running out.
Today, I’m going to talk about a
very important day for Microsoft users. You Linux geeks can feel free to turn
out right now, but today is Patch Tuesday. That wonderful day of the month
where you need to download updates, install them on your computer, restart
them, perhaps potentially download a couple more updates, maybe not, and then
lather, rinse, repeat until the moment that your computer is completely updated.
These updates come out at 1:00 PM Eastern time in the United States and I’m
sure you can work out the Timezone from there. When you go west, its -1 hour,
when you go east its +1 hour, for those not in the know.
According to various sources, for
the December 2011 Patch Tuesday, there will be fourteen updates at the very
least. A few of them are rather critical, so you might want to really get to
updating computers as soon as possible. I know IT people around the world are
going to have various fits today, as all of the computers they have to update.
Ah, Microsoft Windows, the most
used system, thus the most vulnerable. The reason why Linux doesn’t get viruses
that often if at all is because virus and malware creators are the biggest
attention hounds out there. They want to rather cause the most havoc, so
obviously Windows is the place to be. If Linux ever caught on (highly unlikely,
but work with me), that could be the worst thing that could happen to you. Then
the malicious individuals of the Internet would step right over to you and
start reeking havoc on your formally secure Linux computers.
Again, if you don’t have virus
protection on your computer, then you might want to invest in one. A good one
that is but what is a good virus scan is really up for a lot of debate and
there are fans and critics of everything.
Bringing it back around download
your updates, install them today ASAP, as Patch Tuesday is followed by Exploit
Wednesday where all of the malicious forces come out to play. Hopefully you
have your Christmas shopping done and if not, get to that as well as there are
eleven more shopping days until Christmas.
