The Lost Art of Christmas Cards

Christmas really is winding down tick by tick, moment by moment, as we are on December 18th 2011, which means we are going to have approximately 7 more days until Christmas. Which means about six more days (well closer to five by now), of Christmas shopping until the big day.

Today I’d like to talk about the lost art of Christmas cards. Remember back in the day, before the Internet, where Christmas came and you received cards from friends and relatives, even some that you did not really speak to maybe more than a handful of times throughout the year. It was just a wonderful feeling to get those Christmas cards right through the mail. Some of them were wonderful, some were amusing, many were thought provoking but they were all completely appreciated.

Yet, a lot of the feeling is lost during this day, with E-Cards. The Internet is a really wonderful thing and really, I love it about as much as the next person. In fact, I love it even more then the next person. There just is a bit of an empty feeling of receiving an e-card as opposed to a traditional Christmas card.

Not that it isn’t appreciated, but there are just going to be something that is lost in the magic of Christmas cards. Perhaps I am part of a dying breed, clinging onto some of the older ways, like Christmas cards, landline phones, and physical books, but I won’t be going down easily without a fight. For all of the good things technology has brought, it really has caused some things to be lost.

One of those things are Christmas cards. Christmas cards are wonderful, rather wonderful and a joy to behold. Just opening them from a loved one is a sight. As appreciated it is, it is not the same on the Internet.

Hopefully you’re done with your Christmas shopping but there is still time, although not much.
