Christmas Viewing Checklist

The time is ticking down in the Christmas season, with six more days left until Christmas and that means we have about five more shopping days left to Christmas. Needless to say, you should get right to that Christmas shopping if you can, as soon as possible. If you haven’t, then there is no used to speaking to you. Still I’d like to talk about Christmas Specials right now, some of the holiday classics that remain timeless tradition.

Essential Holiday Viewing for the Christmas Season

There are countless Christmas specials out there, and obviously some are better than others. Here are a few of those that tend to be required holiday viewing for many of us. Granted this is by no means a full list of the most prominent Christmas specials as there are countless out there. Here we go, the ultimate Christmas special checklist. Consider it a bucket list of things to watch for this holiday season and any further holiday season. Many of them we have seen so many times that we can recite these Christmas classics by heart.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

The holiday tradition that has aired on CBS every year lock clock work once a year but in recent years twice. Sadly the CBS version tends to be cut up. But if you can locate the full version of Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, the it is a joy.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

Animation is not the best in the world, but the message and the heart is in fact there. Charlie Brown’s Christmas is a great special and required holiday viewing.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

The half hour special made by Chuck Jones of Looney Tunes fame, of the book of Dr. Seuss fame. A special that I can personally recite with my eyes closed but nevertheless one that I can watch five(or more) times a year without getting bored.

It’s a Wonderful Life

Granted not my favorite movie in the world, but really it is one of those movies that can be essential holiday viewing for many, so it goes on the list.

Married…With Children: It’s a Bundyful Life

And there is in fact the parody done as only Married…With Children can in fact do, where if Al Bundy wasn’t born, the world would be better. There were many Christmas episodes of Married…With Children, but this was my favorite.

Miracle on 34th Street

The original thank you very much. Miracle on 34th Street is a timeless classic for sure.

A Christmas Carol

Really any of the versions of the Christmas Carol that play it straight or any of the various knock offs, the Dickens tale never gets old, no matter how many times it has been told.

Spongebob Squarpants: Christmas Who

A delightfully fun Christmas episode with everyone’s favorite Cartoon Sponge, Spongebob Squarepants in Christmas Who is a delightful holiday episode.

Darkwing Duck: It’s a Wonderful Leaf

A favorite of mine, featuring the Terror that Flaps in the night, but Darkwing Duck’s Christmas special is a charming holiday special.

Justice League: Comfort and Joy

A fun half hour episode of Justice League, which was originally wedged between some epic story arcs, but still Justice League Comfort and Joy is a wonderful episode.

Batman the Animated Series: Christmas with the Joker

Not the best episode of Batman the Animated Series, but a sentimental favorite around the holiday season. A joyous romp with the Joker, featuring a stirring rendition of that old holiday classic, “Jingle Bells, Batman Smells.”

Ernest Saves Christmas

The Ernest Movies are a bit of an acquired taste, but Ernest Saves Christmas has a soft spot in my heart so it will go on this list.

The Santa Clause

The original starring Tim Allen back in 1994, although the two sequels do have some kind of a charm, but as sequels often do, they fall short.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Christmas Aliens

Adapted from a comic book, this is the only Christmas special involving the TMNT. Well the only one that won’t make you blow chunks and do not have horrible looking like action turtles that is. Part of the 2003 TMNT series.

And no doubt I’m missing a few, but there are just some of the great holiday favorites to watch. Perhaps you have watched a few and there is still time to watch a few more.

P.S. Get your Christmas shopping done if you haven't already.
