Don't Spam the Doorbell

During this day and age, many people have a doorbell to announce the arrival of people in their house. Despite the fact that many people do in fact have a doorbell, there seem to rather a disturbing amount of people who really have no idea whatsoever to use the doorbell. Little idea of how the doorbell works. Or they are purposely being annoying. Many of us will be at a loss to see what would be worse. What would be worse, lack of knowledge or lack of the ability to properly use such a common item.

I wish people would realize one simple truth. You lightly press the doorbell. You take a step back to wait if the door is going to be answered. Maybe you press it once again after a couple of minutes. If the door is not answered, that means that either no one’s home or we’re busy doing something, thus not in the fit state to entertain visitors.

You do not lean into the doorbell causing it to ring over and over again. You most certainly not do not slam the doorbell over and over again with the palm of your hand, causing the most annoying sound in the world. If the door was meant to be answered, we will come. If its not, turn around and walk home.

This does really tie into another problem I have with people. Especially one’s that I know and thus should know better. Calling before you come over to visit. Nine times out of ten, the worst doorbell spammers are going to be the people who you know. Again as I said, I don’t know what would be worse.

Be kind to other people’s doorbells people. Don’t spam the doorbell and please do call before coming over for a visit. It’s just common courtesy. Which isn’t too common these days granted.
